| The prestigious Bobby Chavez Humanitarian Award is presented each year to a person or persons that the member tracks of the Northern California Track Association (NorCal) nominate and then elect. The recipients of the Bobby Chavez Humanitarian Award listed below exemplify the example and spirit, that was the heart and sole of the late karter, Bobby Chavez. Making the sport of karting better for any and all!
At age 22, Bobby Chavez had been racing karts for over 15 years. Everyone in IKF Region 11 watched Bobby grow up at the track. Bobby and his father did everything together, from growing grapes on their ranch, to racing karts. Bobby became a Bug Team Member in 1982, and raced both in Northern and Southern California. Becoming a member of Team Bridgestone in 1988. Bobby was a good solid competitor, win or lose. As a racer Bobby was a tiger against his competitors. But off the track he always had a huge smile on his face and was more than willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and everyone, to make sure they could race and enjoy the sport of karting as much as he did. Bobby and his father were regulars at the regional races and several IKF Nationals. Bobby won ten Regional Championships. Several times winning two in a single year. Then dedicating one of the Champion's Jacket he won to his father.
Bobby tragically lost his life in a highway accident on April 15, 1991. Though nobody can replace the loss his family, friends, and fellow karters have felt over the years. The following Bobby Chavez Humanitarian Award Recipients have displayed the same character traits that Bobby did. Unselfishly giving of themselves for the betterment of all karters and the sport of karting in general throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada, thereby preserving the spirit and fond memories of Bobby Chavez, and what Bobby stood for and represented, not only as a karter, but more importantly as a person. |
