Blue Max Kart Club, Davis, California
April 9-10, 2005
by Chris Scribner
All week the skies were filled with overcast and rain but when Saturday rolled around the skies were clear and Mother Nature was ready for racing action. There was one big part of Nor-Cal missing this weekend and that was Go-Racings Greg Burr. Greg was home recuperating from triple open-heart bypass surgery. All wishes go out to Greg and the whole Burr family.
Racing was intense at the Blue Max Kart Club this past weekend in Davis. An older track with narrow passing lanes provided a great show. Competitors knew that when the opportunity comes for a pass they had better take it because there weren't many. In the Jr Animal Super Sportsman classes Cody Kay won Jr.1 and CJ Mooneyham got the Jr 11. Steve Slacks ran away with another win in the National Cup Masters and Neil Alberico got another one in the Jr Puma. Tough break for Scribner Plastics driver Chris Scribner, had the field once again covered in Super Sportsman Light but clutch failure put him out opening it up for Cory Gwin to bring it home. Joel Chavez ran away with the Animal Super Sportsman and Chip Mooneyham in the 4 Cycle Masters. Jimmy Greco got the sticker in Jr 1-2 Cycle but the drive of the day came from Brendan Phinny who started tenth and muscled his way to a third place finish. Alex Shutte made a great pass on Colton Fillkill to win the Formula 80 Jr. and Dylan Albiani dominated Junior Sportsman.
On day two Lou Albedi put together a great run for the Super Sportsman Heavy for the win and Alexander Rossi ran away with it in the Jr Super Sportsman. Brian Bartolero raced his way to a hard fought victory in 125 National Cup Class over a stacked field of five gold plates. Tad Funikoshi took a nap out front in the Formula 80 Sr. class, winning with over a five second margin while the rest of the field battled and crashed on the last lap. In the last race of the day Anthony Snow made his debut in the 100 cc National Cup class pulling off a win while others in the class broke and watched from the infield. Next race is April 23-24 when Region 11 travels to upstate California for Shasta Kart Club's round 4.
